On Tempo

True to my word, I ran on the treadmill yesterday. The February issue of Runner's World has an article on building up speed/endurance. I only have 22 more Saturdays until my marathon, but I'll be doing a half-M first, so that's the plan I'm following. After a two mile warm up, I ran for 30 minutes at 1/2M pace, which in my case is 12 minutes per mile, then I cooled down for 2.1 miles at a 13:20 pace. I'm supposed to do that two out of every three weeks, and on the third week alternate by doing mile repeats at 10K pace. Long runs every Saturday.

During the tempo run, I kept watching my heart rate. I tried to keep it at 170 and practiced dropping it a few beats by breathing deep. I can't read or watch TV when I run, so that was my amusement. Along with my iPod, or course. I got some headphones at Brookstone that hook over my ear. The ear buds from Apple kept falling out and it was really annoying.

Today I'm going back to that Spinning class at noon.
