Spinning class was great and afterwards I was asking about shoes. I just wear my running shoes, but a lot of people wear shoes that clip onto the pedal. When I was spinning a few years ago, I tried finding them in SportsMart; apparently a bike store would have been more appropriate.Thinking maybe I should get a pair, I asked where I could get them and what to look for. I didn't know what I was getting into! First, there's the bike shoe. I thought it was all about the clip; it's not like you need arch support or cushioning like you do for running. I was wrong, wrong, wrong! There are different styles of clips; some you can walk on and some you can't. Then there's the shoe itself. You want a sole that's as stiff as a Brit's upper lip. Some models have carbon soles, but they're in the pro price range. And you need a shoe that breathes, 'cause it gets hot and sweaty in class. Anyway, I think I'll hold off on the purchase, but now I know where to look. Here's a link from the people that brought you the spinning program, on how to choose a shoe for class.
When I got home, I found the Grandma's Marathon application waiting for me. Hurrah! I filled it in, wrote out the check, and stamped and addressed the envelope before I could change my mind. I went out tonight and on the way home realized I forgot to go to the Post Office, so I drove back downtown. I missed the last pickup (8 p.m.) but it will be picked up at 6 a.m. The local mail boxes don't get picked up until 1 p.m., so I'm ahead. This is much different from my usual procrastinating style. I heard it's a popular race and fills up fast, so I didn't want to take any chances. While I was at it, I mailed in my application for the Valentine's 5K.
I'm meeting some women on Saturday to go running. I hope I can keep up with them.
