Rave Run

Sunday is the start of a new week and this week begins my marathon training! Last week I managed to run 28 miles. That's not much, but it's a lot more than I had been doing. Bunny is going to train with me, even though she's probably going to run a half marathon. We start our first long run on Tuesday--10 miles. We've put in a few 8 milers these past few weeks, so although 10 will be challenging, it won't be too much of a stretch.

We had a great 6 mile run this morning on a road we hadn't run before. Someone told me about it last week and since we were only planning for 5 or 6 miles anyway, we tried it. What a beautiful run! Open fields, no cars, and a compact dirt road. We vowed to keep it our secret, it was that good. I might share it with one or two close running companions, but not the whole club. SD joined us and walked while we ran. He walks 15 minute miles, so wasn't too far behind us and caught us unawares with the camera.

Yesterday was a non-running day, so SD and I went for a bike ride on Highway 1. We rode from Cambria, north to the Elephant Seals, almost 25 miles round trip, average speed 15 mph. It was pretty much the same route as the recent Castle to Coast race, only we rode a little further north of San Simeon. I just love the coastal views and the shoulder is pretty wide, so the speeding cars weren't a problem. The sun was shining, but the temperature was about 40 degrees so I wasn't sure how to dress--cap sleeve jersey and light jacket, or long sleeve thermal top? With running, you dress 10-15 degrees warmer than the temperature, but I didn't know about biking, since there's a wind chill. I opted for the long sleeve and gloves, and it was just right. I only had to pull the zipper down once. Along the way we saw a hawk, turkey vultures, and of course, elephant seals.

All this exercise is wearing me out! After the run this morning, I took a two hour nap. That's not uncommon for me after a 20 miler, but 6? Sheesh. And I'm sore, too. Not my knees, but my hip and back. My shoes don't seem too worn, but when I'm feeling all achy-breaky that's a good indication that it's time to replace them. I actually have a new pair of Asics in my closet, so this will be a good time to break them out. Just in time for marathon training.

It looks WARM where you are running!!

And there's no run to short to warrant a nap!! Napping is the bomb!!

I LOVE that picture of you two running. It's beautiful. You're smart to keep that a secret.

I bet you're glad you're not training in Minnesota right about now :)

that is a GREAT photo!

and 28 miles on ONE week is fantastic. I'm nowhere near that.

I know what you mean about achy. Make sure you have a good fit on your bike.
