Never mind the gods, I must be crazy!

That's what I thought as I left my warm bed. Heck, I'm not even training for a race! Temperature for my Saturday morning 8 a.m. run was 6 degrees F, with a wind-chill factor of 7 below zero! How do you even dress for that?

What I did was put on two pairs of leggings, Smartwool socks, long-sleeved base layer, windbreaker, vest, and jacket. A fleece neck-gaiter, headband, and acrylic Google cap from last year's CES completed the ensemble. I even put Vaseline on my face, a winter running tip from Janice. I asked a woman in the dressing room if she put Vaseline on her face and she said she used Body Glide because she didn't think it would be so heavy. I thought about where my Body Glide has been and stayed with a light coating of Vaseline.

Even with all that gear I never felt overheated, but I also didn't feel cold. We stayed on the Downtown Trail, which sheltered us a little from the wind, and it was actually a pleasant 4.5 miles.

Running when it's that cold takes some kind of toughness! I had to laugh out loud at your body glide comment. I've used the vaseline on my face, but that's at a balmy 17 degrees. Good job getting out there and running. Don't you feel incredibly satisfied with yourself for doing it?

You are hardcore. You should be very proud of yourself.

Indeed you CAN run in any weather! Just a matter of dressing for it. Good for you!

That is SO hardcore. I went running today in 30 degree weather, whining all the while. I was offended that I had to wear long sleeves and gloves. I guess I just need to suck it up!

Ah, I know that feeling of the bodyglide...I do have a separate one that I use for certain places though, so it might be OK for putting on my face!! See, that's why I don't get why running groups meet so early in the winter, it wasn't so bad later in the day on Saturday. I ran after noon and it was actually dry roads even. And Sunday was actually warmer, just that darn snow!!

I have taken to using heavy tights and some heavy loose runing pants to keep warm. They work. And were worth what I paid (I did get them on sale, but full price they would've been worth it too)

First of all, cool picture! In photography 101 you'd get an "A" for showing depth of field... :)

Good thing you have all of that wonderful gear to layer with... Better yet, you got out there and ran! Nice going!

I feel cold only watching the picture. BTW I would like to live such experience, I never ran with snow and ice.

I've never heard of using Body Glide for that. Because of where mine goes I'm definitely not putting it on my face. I'd buy a new one before doing that!
