Life in the SLO lane. After 16 years in Minneapolis, where I become an avid runner, I moved to the California Central Coast. I'm 67 and have been running since I was 50. I've finished 10 marathons, with a 5:49 PR. Aways trying to get faster.

More on Garmin
Danielle and Eric expressed interest in the software for Garmin that I saw demo'd at CES. The software is from MotionBased, and supports the Forerunner 201 and 301 as well as the 205 and 305. It also works with Garmin Edge for cyclists. I don't know much about it, since I use the Training Center software, but you can get a good idea by perusing the website.
They offer a "lite" version that is free and for about $8 a month you can upgrade to the full-featured one. From what I could determine on the website, the feature that has the running routes is called Courses, and that feature can not be downloaded to the 201. Perhaps it can be used online, though. I plan to download the free software and play around with it.
One more thing: until May 15, Garmin is offering a $50 rebate on the 205 and 305!

Dori,
I've actually tried the MotionBased site out before! I downloaded some of my runs into the system. Since I was just checking it as a demo I didn't have all the power of the software at my disposal. One thing I liked was the mapping feature with MotionBased site. It will make it look like you can walk or run on water if you run near a lake, ocean, stream, or river. Perhaps the newer Garmin Forerunners are a bit more accurate than my 301. I know that Michelle's 205 has a much better antenna. At least I assume it is better due to it's superior startup speed for locating satelites and reduced weak signals.
As I recall MotionBased software also had a fairly nice statistics package and run profile. I need to check it out again!
Eric
When I was running, pre-stress fracture, I loved using Motion Based with my 205. They have a cool feature where you can "play" your runnings of the same route and see if you have gotten faster. I miss using my Garmin.
Some really good information. And to think I just use my Ironman. Thanks for the Garmin tip! And that road pic below proves there are no excuses. :)
I do not have a Garmin...yet! I will consider that once I purchase one.
Thanks for the information. Going to see the new software waiting for the 305!
