Life in the SLO lane. After 16 years in Minneapolis, where I become an avid runner, I moved to the California Central Coast. I'm 67 and have been running since I was 50. I've finished 10 marathons, with a 5:49 PR. Aways trying to get faster.

Good things come to those who show up.
This morning I went running with my old Club Run group. The gym I now belong to bought the gym I used to belong to, so I can go to the old location whenever I want. It was an "all clubs" run, which means runners from all locations in the Metro area showed up and was hosted by the SLP club. The run started at 8 a.m.
Dan, the national running director for our gym, was there and he had a surprise for us--members of Team USA Minnesota were there to run with us! Well, not me, but some of the faster members. There was one male, Chris Lundstrom, who placed 4th in the last Twin Cities Marathon, and three females: Katie McGregor, who won the Twin Cities 10 Mile race; Jenelle Deatherage, who won the 2005 Human Race 8K, and 2004 Olympian Carrie Tollefson. My cell-phone battery was about to die, so I only got one quick picture. I was going to post it here but I'm having trouble downloading pics from my cell phone.
It was a thrill for me to be in the presence of these elite runners, and I took the opportunity to introduce myself to Carrie Tollefson. I told her I was the person that her husband Charlie had sent her autographed picture to, and she knew who I was. She's even read my blog! Charlie was there and he came over to say hi. He remembered me and I asked him if he ran the Twin Cities Marathon. He had, and is planning on doing another Ironman. For some reason I thought that TC Marathon was his first marathon, and here he is an Ironman. Can you imagine the genes their kids are going to have?
Except for a run last Saturday with AmyBee and Mary, I've been sticking to indoor running. We ran 5 miles last week, and I managed to keep up with them, but I know I was holding them back. Today I ran with people I had formerly trained with, including Marcia, whom I've mentioned in previous posts, and Gary, my first (and favorite) coach. They were planning to do 10K, and I'm happy to say I was able to keep up with them.
It was so great to have people to talk to! A group makes running so much more fun.

How exciting!! That had to have been a thrill. I am a big Carrie T fan. Happy new year to you!
What a fun start to the year!
Dori,
Sounds like a fun run with Team USA Mennesota and your running club. It's nice when you can get together with a diverse crowd with a common interest. Obviously these Team USA speedsters are in it for the competition but they put one running sock on at a time just like you and me.
Have a Happy New Year!
Eric
My goofy husband turned off the alarm when he went to bed (after me) on Friday night, so I overslept and missed the run.
grrr.
Glad you had a great time and got to meet some cool people!
Happy New Year Dori!
That is sound advice, good things come to those who show up!!!! :-)

I have never, ever run with anyone. Ever. I think I would slow just about everyone else down! But I have a partner for my HM this Spring, I'm excited:-)
Happy New Year to you, Dori!
