Life in the SLO lane. After 16 years in Minneapolis, where I become an avid runner, I moved to the California Central Coast. I'm 67 and have been running since I was 50. I've finished 10 marathons, with a 5:49 PR. Aways trying to get faster.

Time to Rock and Roll
Hi Everybody. Writing this from San Diego, two days before the Rock n Roll marathon! SD and I drove down today and it took us a lot longer than we expected. But that's because we took the scenic route, and sometimes the traffic was horrendous. I've gotten spoiled living on the Central Coast with its relatively low population. :-)
So I'm ready to run. I'm not too nervous, just a little bit. I've trained for the distance, although not for speed, so I don't expect to PR by an hour. I do think that if my knees hold out I can finish in 5:40. That would still be a PR for me, but that's not saying much. Running the 21 mile race in Big Sur gave me confidence.
There are nine women from my running group who are running the marathon, and this is the first marathon for seven of them! They're ready though, and I'm excited for them. We bought pink singlets from One More Mile to wear for the race and had our club logo silk-screened on the back. They started out in a running class called, "I Hate to Run" and so the logo has a heart around the word "hate".
My sister, Deni, is walking the race with her friend L.. They walked the marathon together last year, so this will be Deni's second marathon. L. is getting married in a few months, so wasn't sure if she would have the time to train this year, but the call of the marathon is hard to resist.
After the race, I hope to catch up on what you guys are doing. I quickly perused some blogs and a lot has been happening! Firefly graduated (congratulations, Denise); Jeanne bought a new bike and continues to conquer her fears; Marathon Maniac Michelle ran yet another marathon; Nat had skittles in her gall bladder; and Stephano, the Black Knight, finished a 5K in May! He had an accident which caused considerable damage and it is a miracle that he even can run. Sadly, Irene got sidelined with a fractured hip and won't be able to run on Sunday. She just had surgery, so it will be a while before she's able to run again. Stop by and give her some encouragement when you can.
Now it's time to Rock and Roll!

Thanks for the shout out. Good luck! You can do it! Looking forward to the race report.
Dori,
I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who was driving down for the marathon, though a couple people flew down. So I'm not sure who it was you saw.
I hope you have fun! I can't wait to hear how it goes.
Good luck Dori! After your excellent 21 miler, this will be a piece of cake, I hope. I have never done a marathon in CA, although I very much enjoyed the Inaugural Disneyland Half a couple of years ago. In 2 weeks I'll be doing the Lake Tahoe Relay.
Thanks, Dori!
It was great seeing you at the expo, and I was thrilled to see you on the course! Because there was so many people, I thought I might miss you. I'll send the pictures as soon as I'm able, in a day or two.
Congratulations on another marathon finished!
CONGRATS on putting another marathon under your belt!
Hope you are well and miss you mucho.
Nice 6:36 at R&R SD! Hope you had fun!
Eric
