CES

As you can tell from the previous post, I'm at the Consumner Electronics Show in Las Vegas. I'm not having as much fun as in previous years, probably because I'd rather be at my new house, getting it in order.

The big news of interest to some of you will be Garmin has a 405 coming out. It's supposed to be released in March. It's way cool, of course. Smaller, and with an interface that's a little reminiscent of the iPod. I just got a quick demo of it, so I can't report much. I asked how I can use my watch when cycling, which I will do as soon as I get a bicycle. There's a different kind of watch strap, which will let me remove the watch easily and then I can mount it to a bike. I don't know what that costs, but it's an accessory packet.

I haven't found any cool freebies this trip. :-( But I didn't sit through any presentations; maybe tomorrow. Today I visited companies who had products I owned: HP, Kodak, Microsoft. The Microsoft booth was pretty good, cause I got information on some of the software that came with Vista but I never bothered to learn. One of those products was Windows Live, which handles mail, photographs, and stuff. The best thing I found was the Live Writer feature, which lets me create a blog post and insert pictures offline, then I can publish online when I want to. It makes it faster, and I can create a post when I don't have access to the Net. What I used to do was create a post in Word, then cut and paste into Blogger. And I could only insert pictures while online. With Live Writer I can insert the pictures and see exactly what my post will look like before I even publish it online. It's a lot better than the Blogger interface, and it's free. I'm going to download when I get home. If you're interested, you can download the software at
windowslive.com.

My running has been sporadic, but I did bring my gear to Vegas and I'm planning to run on the ULV campus tomorrow. The area I'm staying in is not pedestrian friendly, but I figured the campus will be relatively car-free. Maybe they'll even have a track. Marathon training begins in earnest as soon as I get back home!

I like the sound of a smaller Garmin - as long as I can still read the screen! Are you at the show for work or fun?

Hi, Dorine! You're a wealth of information, as usual!

I miss you dearly. Good to hear that you're keeping yourself "out of trouble" in California!

Windows Live sounds useful. Write now I write, post, corect, re-publish, etc. And cutting and pasting from older drafts (to get a more current date) in blogland I have lost the entire text several times. I always go, Oh @%!**, but it always makes your writing better to re-do it from scratch (takes out the verbosity). Never a problem with your writing tho. Enjoy LV, I last visited it before I started running so I never ran there tho I'd like to (my work used to take me there a lot).

Hey: I was in LV last December and then Santa Fe. Sorry our paths keep missing each other.

We (I) are (am) missing you mucho out there on the frigid, frosty MN roads.

I got out today for a spin around Harriet -- lovely, but cold. I thought of you and was sending you good vibes. Hope you got them.

My training starts in earnest too on 1/26 -- I signed up for Fargo -- it will be weird to do so much training during the winter months.

BUT, if you can do it, I can do it.

Hope to talk to you soon.

Just wanted to say hi!

I have just bought my second Garmin (last summer) and it is already ready for the retirement. What a sad situation!
