As you know, SD and I are building a house in California. Our house in Minneapolis is on the market, as they say, and our house in CA is supposed to be ready in February. We're moving to the Central Coast, which is between L.A. and San Francisco. For those of you familiar with the area, the nearest town is Cambria. And the nearest city is San Luis Obispo, 1/2 hour drive south. The nearest Starbucks is 12 miles east. :-)
Here is the view I'm giving up:

And this is the view I'm going to:

Nice, huh? That white stuff under the blue sky is fog, which is blanketing the ocean. As you can see, it's isolated. My nearest neighbor is a cattle rancher, but he doesn't live on the property. His ranch is so big that the herd only grazes by my house for a short time.
When we were there two weeks ago, I looked at health clubs to join. So far I haven't found one as nice as my current one. I hope to find a running club there, so that I can meet other women runners. Bicycling seems to be big there, and I went to a bike store to check out the new models. Currently, I ride a 1984 mountain bike, which is not going to get me up those horrendous hills. So I've been thinking about a road bike, fast and light, in case I want to try racing. I went to Wally's Bike Shop in San Luis Obispo and told him my level of (non)expertise, and my desire to make it up the 1300 foot climb to home. He's familiar with that road. He sells Fuji, and now I'm saving my pennies for a reasonably priced (it's all relative) carbon bike. I'm under the impression that carbon frames are the lightest one's and that will help me get up the big hills. Tell me if I'm completely off base; I welcome your suggestions. There is a bike club in Cambria and I'm thinking I might be able to join them for rides.
I haven't been keeping up my running. I ran 12 miles on the 16th, but haven't had any run's over an hour since then. The 12 miles was good, though. It gave me confidence that I can do the Big Sur Half. I ran it with my Club Run friends, Marcia, Cheryl, and AmyBee, who are training for the Twin Cities Marathon. They were running 16 that day, so I turned around at 6 miles and ran by myself. The TCM is this Sunday and I have lots of friends to cheer on. I'm excited for them, but it will be weird for me because it's the first time in three years that I won't be running.

Oh my gosh I love your snow pic. Ahh... memories. What an awesome change to your new view! :)
The snow pic is PRETTY, but the new house looks very beautiful! I hope to see you on Sunday.
Hey! Long time no see! I love your new view but we'll miss you lots. Maybe I'll see you on Sunday at TC Marathon?
Stay with the carbon idea. As lon as you keep a bike I would say get the best available and you can enjoy it for years. I love carbon. I took one home when my titanium bike was in the shop. The rest is history. Plus you can take it off some sweet jumps. ( A little Napoleon humor)
Each view is special. How exciting to to be building and moving to such an awesome place.
Wow, what a beautiful view! I meant the California view but the Minneapolis view is nice too. Your pics always make me homesick.
Your new place is going to be wonderful- that is a gorgeous view. It must be exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time to be making such a big change. Have fun at the marathon!
Hey D! I linked up your blog to mine so I won't forget to check in when you move... but with 12 miles to the nearest Starbucks, are you sure about this?!
hey! What a view! The snow! The neighbors! WOW! (j/k).
Your new house looks wonderful and that view is breathtaking. Good for you, although I'm not so happy about my good friend moving so far away.
Hey, Roomie~ Boy-o-boy does this make me yearn to move back home to Cali! I miss it sooooo much. What a gorgeous view of the hills of Cali. I totally agree with the carbon bike. The lightest and best to get u up that 1300ft climb. I'm pretty sure that biking is more popular around the Cambria area because of the breath-taking views that, while biking, you may cover more ground than running...(plus there's not as many beautiful running trails like here in MPLS. around lakes) WOW~ I didn't know this was happening. I hope you have a very blessed life there!
Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. Thank you for sharing the pictures.
We had lunch in Nye Beach yesterday at a place called the Chowder Bowl. Ring any bells? I think I saw that huge-ass hill you were talking about. No wonder you lost weight!
Every change is hard but the place is wonderful and...you have new trails to explore.
What a gorgeous view you'll have in California! My husband and I are building a house too, but our view won't be nearly as gorgeous (and unobstructed) as that.
I am sooooo coming out to visit you, Dori! I am going to greatly miss your positive spirit in Minnesota. I love the new home!
