Why We Run

Chris Carr, from the local paper, ran his first marathon, Grandma's, last Saturday and kept a blog on the paper's web site. On one of his posts he asked people their reasons for running. He got a lot of comments and compiled some of his favorites into a photo-essay, using images from the Star Tribune archives. It's well-done and worth viewing. There's no music, but you can play the theme from Chariots of Fire in your head. :-)

If you're inspired, feel free to add your own reasons!

Did you have in your had Chariots of Fire during the last metres of the Marathon? Good job, the final time is not important, you did it! Congrats.

Oh, Dori, what an extraordinary link! The photos and quotes have me in tears.

Something about the marathon just resonates in me. Like an epic journey all in one day's time; the things you pass through as you travel to reach the end.

I hope you're beginning to enjoy your marathon more in hindsight than it sounds like you did right afterward. Give the experience time to settle; you are most likely exhausted. There is often a sort of emotional deflation after a marathon (or after completing ANY major goal). It's natural.

Get some good rest, eat some nourishing and favorite foods.

:-)

Never got a chance to congratulate you on your run last week. These bring it into focus. Remember we are all winners when it comes to the marathon, you are simply that - A WINNER :)

Hey there,

A little while back I blogged about this post on ThisNext.com (check it out at http://blog.thisnext.com/blog/why-we-run.html). ThisNext recently started a month-long private beta and I'd love to invite you to come to the site and make a list of your favorite fitness and health products (and any other products you love).

Clicking this link will get you into your account: http://www.thisnext.com/invitation/6626-8418-4130. It’s a one-time URL that’s only for you, so it can’t be shared.

Once you sign up, you can get started on making a list of your favorite products and telling everybody why you love them – just like Hans Rey has done here: http://www.thisnext.com/list/B3415DD3/How-I-Gear-Up. After your list is made, you can see what other likeminded members are recommending for you. It’s a perfect way to great product recommendations from a community of people whose interests, tastes, and values are in sync with your own.

ThisNext will also help you attract more traffic, since your list will link to your blog.

One small favor: We’re asking the bloggers that we invite to please NOT post about the project until our public launch in August. We’ll let you know when.

Hope to see you around the ThisNext neighborhood. Please let us know how the site’s working for you - we’re still working on it!

Thanks,
Liz

P.S. Don’t hesitate to email me any questions! (lizbarker77@gmail.com)

This has nothing to do with running, but felt I needed to post it to your blog.

(1) I know your mother
(2) In memory of Jim
The song is: "All My Life's a Circle" by Harry Chapin. Sing it with all the Irish pride you have :)
"All my life's a circle
Sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls through the nighttime
Til the day break comes around."
